The media’s infantile coverage of climate – Bin Laden addition

The right wing blogs, the denialosphere, and even environmentalists and the mainstream press seem to be all atwitter with the “news” that Osama Bin Laden is talking about global warming.

I can’t say for certain why this is such a big deal to the press today, though I have my suspicions, but Bin Laden has been talking about it at least since September of 2007:

[Bin Laden] goes on to call Noam Chomsky “among one of the most capable of those from your own side,” and mentions global warming and “the Kyoto accord.”

He also speaks to recent issues grabbing headlines in the United States, referring to “the reeling of many of you under the burden of interest-related debts, insane taxes and real estate mortgages; global warming and its woes…”

This isn’t “news” in the sense that it’s new.

  1. It’s big news today because it’s snowing somewhere.
