The Way Things Break

World Oceans Day

June 8, 2009 · 1 Comment

Press coverage can be read here, blog posts here. The UN official theme is “Our Oceans, Our Responsibility“ while the Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts and Islands, World Ocean Network, and The Ocean Project propose that the 2009 theme should be “One ocean, one climate, one future“.

As part of their awareness-raising effort, The Ocean Project is encouraging people to “Wear blue, tell two” – “wear blue in honor of the ocean” and “tell people two things they likely don’t know about our ocean and how they can help.” They also have a handy “About” page for those looking for an introduction.

Also, be sure to check out Carnival of the Blue 25 over at blogfish. And Oceana has some relevant, worthwhile links as well.

[UPDATE: Deep Sea News has a reader letter about a bottom up ocean sustainability effort in California that shows no one need wait on international-scale action to get started.]
